LETS TALK
NEW MUSIC RELEASES (19/01/09)
I cannot believe it is the 21th of January already. There is not much music that has caught my ears recently, mainly because work and university has crowded any free time I have had. I have missed university today and my first instinct has been to use my regular Internet tools to trace new music.
Here are some music being releases this week that could be of interest to you:
This weeks singles
Bon Iver - 'Blood Bank'
Franz Ferdinand - 'Ulysses'
Kid British - 'Leave London'
The Killers - 'Spaceman'
Pink - 'Sober'
This weeks albums
Blood Bank ~ Bon Iver
To Lose My Life ~ White Lies
Looking over the releases, I would advise the 'Spaceman' song strongly as I think it is a nice light, easy going song where Brandon Flower's advices us of the truth about aliens. I would also like to add that the Franz Ferdinand song was a joy to my ears along with the release of White Lies album is leaving me to think I may have to make a purchase very soon.
Enjoy new music people
HOW TO SPEND NEW YEAR'S EVE
I was thinking, if I were in London, I'd like to spend my New Year's Eve at the Brixton Academy:
WEDNESDAY 31ST DECEMBER - OVER 18s ONLY
Xfm are have put together a stellar lineup for London's hottest NYE ticket. The King Blues bring their unique style of ska-punk and tag along with Brit-hop heroes Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip. John Kennedy, Cheeky Pete, Jo Good, Katie P, Steve Harris, Phil Clifton and Sunta Templeton will be taking turns spinning on the decks. Dan Le Sac will also be featured for a special set on the wheels of steel.
And check out this show:
Shockwaves NME Awards Tour 2009 Ft. Glasvegas + Friendly Fires + White Lies + Florence and the Machine
SATURDAY 21ST FEBRUARY
It has discovered the likes of Muse, The Killers and the Arctic Monkeys and next year's Shockwaves NME Awards Tour is back and bigger than ever. Glasvegas scoop the much coveted headline slot alongside Friendly Fires, White Lies and Florence and The Machine.
I have seen the Friendly Fires and White lies recently and they were some of the best shows I've been to in a while. So i suggest you go.
If i lived in london I'd go to all the NME gigs.
DAMN YOU ENGLAND.
you have all the good music, radio, and magazines.
Rolling stone and even now KROQ in LA has gone shit and isnt like it once was.
Sometimes I think I am cursed in New York. Not all the time though.
But It's not so bad here.
I wonder what life is like in a state like Tenessee. There's bugger for entertainment.
Partial CMJ Recap 1
This past week has been really fun.
I got to see Lykke Li , the Friendly Fires, Johnny Foreigner, Fujiya and Miyagi, White Lies, and Soulwax, DJ Luciano, Pete Tong spinning, and Late of the Pier.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE FRIENDLY FIRES to come the the USA FOR AGES!
This past week I saw them three times!
I saw them open for Lykke Li at Bowery Ballroom last tuesday.
Wow.
Their CD also called, "Friendly Fires" on XL is amazing.
Everyone's heard 'Paris' by now, but other great tunes I like on it are 'Jump in the Pool', 'White Diamonds', and 'Photobooth'. I also love 'Skeleton Boy'. Ed McFarlane is really hot too!!
'Jump in the Pool' live- is amazing.
They just jam in the middle of the song. The entire band dances and uses moroccans.. I just love the beat. Love it! That band can really pull it off live.
Last Thursday I managed to see them at the KEXP / CMJ studio performance at Gibson Showroom. Later that day I ended up going to see them at the Fader Rocks show at 169 Bowery.

I also decided to take some pictures of them at the Fader show, but I will put them up later. However, I was highly surprised today..
I picked up the New York Times and they did a special on CMJ.
Here's a photo from it:
In other interesting news, I ended up in the new york times. That arm with the green sweatshirt and lykke li shirt with the camera covering my face is me, Jeany. That is me taking pictures of the Friendly Fires at the Fader show!
Here is the fujiya and miyagi session that you can here if you weren't there like me..

Onto Johnny Foreigner:
They are from Birmingham.
At the Fader Show they reminded the Americans that London is very different from Birmingham. Since I haven't really seen the UK outside of London (does Catford/Lewisham count?) in a long time, I could not tell you what Birmingham would be like.
But I can sense it is probably not quite like London.
Johnny Foreigner recorded their latest album, "Waited up Til It Was Light:, on Best Before Records.

They also recorded it in Hoboken, NJ near New York, NY.
My favourite tracks are 'Eyes Wide Terrified' and 'Salt Peppa and Spinderella'. They are a rock trio- an indie rock trio with smashing female vocals, with the additional beat to a casio keyboard.
More on Lykke Li , White Lies, and BBC Radio 1 dance party. I have to get my Johnny Foreigner and Friendly Fires pictures developed!
